Comic books

In June 2000, Marvel Comics published X-Men: Beginnings, a prequel to the first film. It featured the back-stories of Magneto, Rogue and Wolverine.[95] In 2003, Marvel Comics also released X-Men 2: The Movie for X2, detailing Nightcrawler's backstory and Wolverine's time searching for Alkali Lake.[96]

Videogames

X2: Wolverine's Revenge (2003)

In the videogame, it follows Wolverine as he makes his way past the Weapon X Facility to piece together fragmented clues to his past and save his life from the Shiva Virus.
The story was written by comic book writer Larry Hama.[97] It was released in April 2003 for GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2 and Xbox as a promotional tie-in to X2.[98]

X-Men: The Official Game (2006)

Set between X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, it follows Wolverine, Iceman, and Nightcrawler as they uncover a plot to eradicate mutants. The story also features Nightcrawler's departure from the X-Men.
Zak Penn and Chris Claremont co-wrote the story for the game.[99] The game was developed by Amaze Entertainment, Z-Axis (for Nintendo GameCube) and WayForward Technologies (for Nintendo DS). It was also ported by Hypnos for Microsoft Windows, and Beenox for Game Boy Advance. It was released on May 16, 2006 by Activision for GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, Xbox and Xbox 360.[100]

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

Set before the first X-Men film. The story is a combination of the Wolverine backstory explored in the film and an original plot created by Raven Software.[101]
Developed primarily by Raven Software through the use of Unreal Engine 3 technology. Amaze Entertainment developed the Wii and PlayStation 2 ports while Griptonite Games developed the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS ports. It was released by Activision on May 1, 2009 for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii and Xbox 360.[102]
